The client portal and document requests

What Fyling does and does not do

Fyling gives each invited client their own portal, where they see what you have asked for, upload documents, read and answer messages, and see approvals, forms and invoices you have sent.

The portal is separate from your own sign-in. A client never sees your practice's other clients, and a staff sign-in does not work in the portal.

Invite a client

  1. Open the client and choose Portal.
  2. Check the email address, which starts as the client's main contact. Type another if there is none.
  3. Send the invitation. The client gets a welcome email.

The email does not sign the client in. It opens your practice's portal page, where the client asks for a sign-in link to be emailed to them. There is no password. The link works for 15 minutes and once only, so a forwarded or old email gives nobody access. If a link has expired, the client asks for a new one from the same page.

One email address belongs to one client of your practice. To invite many clients at once, use the bulk invite, which sends to each client's main contact.

Turn access off

On the same page you can turn a client's access off. Their signed-in sessions end straight away, and you can turn it back on later.

Ask for documents

  1. On the client's portal page, add one line for each document you need, with an optional due date.
  2. Add a short note if the client needs to know why, then send the request.
  3. Review what the client uploads on the same page.

If you ask for the same things every year, save them as a request template under Settings and reuse them.

What the client sees

The client's home page says what is needed from them, or that nothing is needed right now. Menu pages cover Documents, Messages, Approvals, Forms and Invoices. Each page is empty, in plain words, when there is nothing to do.

Messages

You can write to the client from the same page. Their replies appear beside your message, so the conversation about a request stays with that client.
