VAT returns

Making Tax Digital

Fyling reads each client's open VAT periods from HMRC, soonest due first. Enter the nine boxes by hand, upload a spreadsheet, or pull the figures from the client's accounting software. Your client approves the figures and your practice submits the return under its own HMRC connection.

What it does for your practice

  • Every client's open VAT periods in one list, soonest due first.
  • Three ways in: type the boxes, upload a spreadsheet, or pull from accounting software.
  • Boxes 3 and 5 are worked out for you, and every box is checked.
  • HMRC's receipt is kept with the return; past returns and payments are one click away.
  • A dropped connection never files twice: Fyling asks HMRC first.

How it works

  1. 1

Connect your practice to HMRC and send the client an authorisation request.

  2. 2

Add the client company with its VAT number. Its open periods come from HMRC.

  3. 3

Open a period and enter the figures: typed, from a spreadsheet, or from accounting software.

  4. 4

Record the client's approval and mark the return ready. Your practice's review settings are checked.

  5. 5

Send it to HMRC. The receipt is kept with the return.

Who it is for

Practices that prepare quarterly or monthly VAT returns for VAT-registered client businesses.

Your practice stays the filer. Fyling is the software your team uses to prepare, check and send the work.

Questions

Does the client need to do anything?

The client authorises your practice with HMRC in the usual way, from a request Fyling sends. Then they approve each return's figures.

Can I use a spreadsheet?

Yes. Upload it on the return's bridging tab and map its cells to the nine boxes once; the mapping is kept for next time.

Who submits the return?

Your practice does, under its own HMRC credentials. Fyling prepares the return, sends it with those credentials and keeps HMRC's answer with the return.
